The Roman Amphitheater of Cagliari, was built in the 2nd century AD, half carved in the rock, while the rest was built in local limestone, with a facade of more than 20 m high. The building's axes measured 93x80, the arena's 46.20x31.00. The arena's surface was 1,124 square meters. It housed fights between men and animals, gladiators and other specialized fighters recruited inside and outside Sardinia. It was also the site of public executions. It had a capacity for about 8,000 spectators.
It was discovered by archaeologist Giovanni Spano, in the 1860s
