This square, octagonal in shape, was built between 1755 and 1775 by Gabriel, architect of Louis XV. It was the scene of numerous key historical events, including the execution of Louis XVI. With its Egyptian obelisk in the center, handed over to Charles X by the Viceroy of Egypt, its statues and its majestic dimensions, the Place de la Concorde is one of the most beautiful squares in Paris. The rostral columns of the square were restored in 1995.

It is located at the beginning of the Avenue des Champs Elysees in the 8th District of Paris, in France. It is the second largest in France after the Plaza de Quinconces, in Bordeaux. Place de la Concorde

The obelisk that is currently in the Place de la Concorde in Paris, was ordered to be erected by Ramses II and is the twin of the one that is still in front of the facade of the temple of Luxor. It measures 23 meters and weighs 227 tons.

In 1830 the governor of Egypt, Mohammed Ali offered it to France through Champollión, there are two versions of this fact: one says that France bought it from the governor and the other one that "changed" it by a clock that never it worked.
