Visiting Soajo, Lindoso and Aldeia das Pontes
Recommended Season: All year
Starting Country: Portugal
Recommended time: 3 days
Distance to travel: 36km
A walk through Gerês visiting the beautiful villages of Soajo, Lindoso and Aldeia das Pontes.
I started the journey from Póvoa do Lanhoso, passed by Ponte da Barca and stayed overnight in the village of Soajo, as we are traveling by motorhome, Soajo offers an excellent service area and overnight stay, located 200 meters from the granaries and another 200 from the center of the village. A very beautiful village, very well preserved, maintaining its traditional architecture with granite houses. In Soajo, it is worth walking through the cobbled streets where we feel as if we were part of a period film. The visit to the museum is really worth it, to eat a traditional sponge cake and, of course, to visit the granaries. We decided to stay 3 days because as it was raining we could visit whenever there was one open.
From Soajo, crossing the mountains in the middle of the Gerês park with beautiful landscapes, we travel just over 10 km until we reach Lindoso.
A rainy morning but we still managed to visit the castle and the granaries of Lindoso, which are more numerous than those of Soajo.
We decided to continue our journey and had lunch as soon as we crossed the Portugal / Spain border at a local restaurant where we savored a divine roasted kid.
After lunch, we decided to continue our journey to visit the village of Pontes.
It had been about 3 years since I had seen photos of this village that aroused my curiosity due to its beauty. It was not in vain, 27km after Lindoso through mountains and valleys, roads that are more or less winding but that are very well involved in nature, we arrive at Aldeia das Pontes, simply beautiful, see the photos and check it out.
I had also seen on the map that about 2 km from the village there was a small Roman bridge that caught my attention. As I also noticed that it was very close to the road, I decided to visit it and it was really worth it.
From Aldeia das Pontes we continued our journey towards Spain and ended the day at the Lóbios spa.

The trip
Aldeia do Soajo

Everyone who knows the village of Soajo or talks about their visit is sure to refer to the granaries. The granaries of Soajo are undoubtedly its greatest attraction, there are 24 granaries built on top of a granite rock, the oldest of which dates back to 1782. They are basically small warehouses where ears of corn were kept in a community system. But Soajo is not just granaries, Soajo is a (today village) with a very interesting history as well as its uses and customs.
Taking a stroll through the narrow streets of the village made of granite stone, together with the houses also built in stone, is like being in a period film.
Many people also visit and base themselves in Soajo for hiking as it has many options and are very well identified.

Lindoso like Soajo, it is located in the middle of the Peneda Gerês park. Lindoso is also one of the most visited villages in Portugal. Lindoso and Soajo are also well known due to their community granaries. In the case of Lindoso, there are more than 50 granaries located on top of granite rocks and at the base of the castle walls, which gives it one more reason to be visited.
Lindoso, in addition to its castle and granaries, also offers other places of interest such as the Igreja Matriz and the old washhouses.
Lindoso Castle was built during the reign of King Afonso III (1210-1279) and is one of the most impressive medieval military monuments. Due to its proximity to the border with Spain, it served as a lookout and defense post for the country's sovereignty.
Another interesting place to visit is the Lindoso dam.

Aldeia das Pontes is a winter village that was uninhabited for more than 20 years, part of which was acquired by a private individual who has been rebuilding it.
It is a village of great beauty with waterfalls and a stream that crosses it and with many places of interest in its surroundings, one of them being the Roman bridge of Dorna.
Today, Aldeia das Pontes is a tourist accommodation for rural tourism, but it can be visited
